mill (or Nine men's morris)
Two players are each given 9 stones, one plays white the other black. The board consists of lines and squares. The intersections (marked points) are where stones are placed.
betting phase
White places first and then the players alternate placing stones. The goal is to get 3 of your stones in a line, called a mill. If you get a mill you can take one of your opponents stones that isn't part of a mill off the board. Once all stones have been placed (or removed) the betting phase is over.
sliding phase
Alternating each player may now move a stone along a line to a free space. You move so that you get a mill and can take a stone from your opponent. You may move a stone to open your mill and then reclose it to be awarded another mill and then remove a piece. Once a player has only 3 stones remaining they move to the next phase.
jumping phase
At the end of the game when a player has 3 remaining stones they may move a stone to any free location on their turn. In this phase, a player with 3 stones may have their stone removed even if those 3 are in a mill. When a player has two stones remaining they have lost.
