sandymount

A hiking area out on the Peninsula. The walk begins in a tunnel of historic macrocarpa trees. It leads into coastal pastureland with high cliffs and stunning views to the northeast over Allans Beach, Hoopers Inlet, Poatiri/Mt Charles and inland to Wharekākahu/Harbour Cone. Continuing around there's more incredible views and a walk through some bush. A side trail heads down to sandfly beach.

One of the signs said the area is closed to lambing from 1 September to 15 October. Dogs are also not allowed as it goes through a sheep pasture.
