The beach is named after aotearoa's mountain harakeke. It's the most beautiful beach in the country, perhaps the world. The surrounding area is devoid of any development. A walk takes you through rather unfortunate farmland, but then into native coastal forest where spirits raise, then through the huge windy dunes and down to the rugged shore.

You're not meant to swim, but you can get a bit wet. Heading down to the left side is where the best views can be found, most only at low tide.
