The park is nearly surrounded by Loyalsock State Forest, which is the best possible name for a state forest.

The earliest recorded inhabitants were the Iroquoian-speaking Susquehannocks. They were a matriarchial society that lived in stockaded villages of large longhouses.

It is, without a doubt, my favorite state park.
