length: 29km (18mi) type: one way hiking

Typically completed as a loop with the greenstone track for a total of 64km. You can also link either greenstone or caples to the routeburn track, but the routeburn carpark is 30km of dirt road away so you'll probably want someone to move your car if you do that.

Both trails largely follow open tussocked valleys with beech forest. The caples track is more narrow, has the single 1000m moutain pass, and is more forested in general, but is shorter than the greenstone side.
