I had a funny idea this afternoon for a window managing paradigm that supports stuff like "zooming" and "panning".

Wouldn't that be kinda neat? like if your "desktop" was an infinite 2d plane and you can drag to create a window, fill it with whatever program, and ya know zoom and pan around. Maybe even move the camera by putting your mouse at the edge of the screen like in RTS games.
